Your Virginia Beach based Wedding and Family Photographer
Hello everyone! I’m Taylor, the founder of Aspen Taylor Photo. Welcome to my very first blog EVER! I am so excited to get this blog going, with the hopes that it will offer tips and tricks for weddings and family sessions, as well as dive into some behind the scenes during sessions in the area. Before I get into any of those topics though, I thought it would be best for you all to get to know me and the WHY behind Aspen Taylor Photo!

Believe it or not, I actually went to school for 7 years to get my undergrad and doctorate degree to be a Physical Therapist! I worked for a couple years as a pediatric PT, which was SO incredibly rewarding, but also very long hours and not something I felt excited to get up and do every single day. When my husband got military orders for us to move to Spain, I quit my PT job and we moved to Rota, Spain. Before even moving to Spain, I decided to invest in a nice camera with the hopes that I would capture beautiful images while traveling. I also decided to start my photography business, offering free and then super cheap sessions starting off to get some experience under my belt!
Each photoshoot I did, I learned something new and got more comfortable using my camera. The editing process and finding my “style” came with time. Like…. a LOT of time. In fact, I think as a photographer, I never really stop learning. I learn something new at each session and each time I edit a photo in a new location with different lighting. Beginning Aspen Taylor Photo in Spain was honestly a DREAM! The locations I had to choose from were all gorgeous, from the beaches to the downtown areas to the grand cathedrals. Gradually, I began to raise my prices as I gained more confidence and experience with my camera. I began establishing great relationships with my clients, and by word of mouth and very little advertising, my business flourished.

I had NO idea that when I began Aspen Taylor Photo it would lead to where I am at now… a full-time wedding and family photographer, completely in love with my job! My time in Spain allowed my business the time it needed to grow and get established. I learned so much capturing all the couples and families there. I learned how to guide a photoshoot so that I capture posed and candid images that feel authentic and never forced. I learned to allow moments to unfold organically, and only step in when my guidance is needed. I learned all about finding the best lighting, location scouting, editing in my own unique style, and the business side of things. There was never a dull moment. I was constantly trying to do the next best thing for my business to flourish. My husband can attest to this. We would be driving down the road in the middle of somewhere in Spain and I’d constantly be seeing everything with a “photographer’s eye,” picking out locations and the best lighting even from the passenger seat in a car. Photographers… IYKYK. I mean how could I not with all the beautiful places we got to travel to.
